Give Me My Mountain!

Joshua and Caleb were both bold and courageous leaders. These two men were beloved by God—kings in the Kingdom of God. They were unique and different. Both loved and trusted God and found great incredible favor with God. They were raised as leaders for their time. Joshua loved the presence of God. We know that he loved to remain in the tent in God’s Presence after Moses had left. Caleb was from the tribe of Judah, so God was his praise and glory. Both these men were powerful, unique men who loved God ferociously and faithfully.

Each of the twelve spies that were sent to survey and spy out the new land was a leader. These men were leaders of the 12 tribes of Israel sent on assignment. However, even as leaders, they fell into fear—they panicked and were terrified because they lost sight of God. When we lose sight of God, it will cause us to panic and fear at any given moment, whatever we are called to do. God may call you to be or to do things that are quite risky and quite significant and in the bigness of the call, you can forget God and start to waver and doubt. Except for Joshua and Caleb, these leaders lost sight of the One whose power they had witnessed many times, and they forgot who they were as His representatives.

FB Meyer once said: Unbelief sees giants and spells them with “G;” faith sees God, and spells giants with “g.” “Looking unto the promise of God,” Abraham “wavered not,” (Rom 4:20)

In this hour of supposed giants occupying strongholds in our cities and nations God’s people have to be people of great faith who see the giants as small and who magnify our Big God. When we magnify God over the giants, we fear nothing. We don’t fear demons, we don’t fear the state and we don’t fear man. Like Caleb, each has a mountain to inherit, promised to us by God. Caleb was a rugged, battle-trained warrior. We have been battle-trained over the last 20-30 years. We’ve been through fires, and we’ve been through many battles.

Caleb was a giant Slayer who inherited his mountain. He was a man with fierce determination who fully trusted God to back him up. While other people were cringing in fear, Caleb knew God was with him. He knew that because God was going to back him, he could stand up against any giant. The other leaders were in unbelief, seeing God as a little God while magnifying the giants.

“Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land, they are strong. The cities are fortified and very large. And moreover, we saw the descendants of Anak… Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and he said let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to do it.” Numbers 13:28,30

Take note of the different spirit in Caleb! This is what the Spirit God is looking for now in His leaders, those who will say let’s go up at once and take possession for we are well able to do it. The leader’s complaint was that there were giants, the cities were fortified and large and the people in the land were strong. Their conclusion—Let’s give up the idea of taking the land. The fear in these leaders angered God because they had seen His power—they had seen the blaze of His Majesty in the wilderness, and yet they still feared.

“…because all these men who have seen My glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have put Me to the test now these ten times, and have not heeded My voice, they certainly shall not see the land of which I swore to their fathers, nor shall any of those who rejected Me see it.” Numbers 14:22-23

We then see how God feels about Caleb because he has a different spirit.

“But my servant Caleb because he has a different spirit in him and he has followed me fully. I will bring it into the land, I will bring him into the land where he went and all his descendants are going to inherit it.” Numbers 1424.

God blesses faith and obedience. He knows we’re human and we have fear, but acknowledges those who look to him and obey Him in spite of fear! Even though we may have a little bit of trembling inside of us, because we look to our big Papa Father, we say, I will do this because of my Father. Look at what Caleb says in

“As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the LORD said.” Joshua 14:11-10.

God preserved and kept Caleb for the day of the fulfillment of His promise! Caleb was not afraid of the giants. He knew Anakin lived there, yet he said, give me this mountain. The scripture says that he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel. It is interesting to note that the name Hebron was formally Kirjath Arba who was the greatest man among the Anakin—the greatest giant of all giants, and his name was simply removed by God and became Hebron, the mountain of Caleb. And the land rested from war. The land rested from war because the giant was removed.

God is now calling His people to be strong in faith and take the high places—to be like Caleb and go after your mountain. He is raising up warriors like Joshua and Caleb who have a different spirit and have followed him fully. We each have a mountain to take, and we have high places to occupy for God. This is the hour in which we are living. There is much being said about giants because the giants have taken the mountains and it is time to take them back. Satan has taken all the mountains: education, entertainment, government, family, media, and business. He has taken the family mountain and is attempting to bring in a whole new concept of family.

We have fallen short in the mandate to occupy the mountains, nevertheless, God has been working in us over time to become giant slayers like Caleb who will occupy and hold the ground for Him. The Lord will reward those who serve him wholeheartedly, as he did with Caleb. He is going to give you your mountain and change its name. Rise in the spirit of Caleb, who was willing to persevere in the battle with determination to possess His promise and live to say: “Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the LORD spoke in that day.”
